the princess and the fall

I was wondering to myself how I would start this post as so many pictures will be of my sweet angel. Not that I don’t take pictures of Connor, but he just doesn’t shove his face in front of the camera like Jessie does…and the fact he rarely holds still long enough for me to get him has a lot to do with it too.

We finally started the first day of school last week. Oh what a JOY! A joy for the kids and for me. Last year I cried all the way home, cried in my empty quiet house, and spent the entire 2 1/2  hours on the phone with my friend who reassured me that it would get better. This year, I was so disappointed my kids didn’t start school with the rest of the district. What is all that about anyway? So finally the day came and we all rushed out the door so excited to find what the day would hold for us.

With school, the rest of fall has begun for the Robertson household. The weather is just right for playing at the park with our friends…the first time in a long time we can come home from an activity that doesn’t require immediate dirt-mixed-with-sweat-or-chlorine removal.

Even though it isn’t “officially” fall…although the weather and changing trees tell otherwise, we have started our fall sports and activities outside of school. We now are involved in soccer. We have started the AWANAS program through our church, which I have decided to volunteer in helping all those wound up children learn more about Jesus. Jessie is starting ballet and Connor is ready to begin taekwondo. A jammed packed fall, but this keeps us busy as we wait for Daddy to come home.

Speaking of daddy’s…this is for you, Drew. Jessie dressed up in clothes from my closet and said you would be so surprised to see that she is all grown up when you come home.

“…and when I grow up and get married, I am going to kiss like grown ups. Like this.” <cue smoochy face sounds>

Then after her 20th change, she said she didn’t want to grow up anymore. She just wants to see her daddy.

We think about you every day sweetheart! We love and miss you. We are so proud of you. We pray that God keeps you all safe every morning and night in our prayers. We believe in you and can’t wait for you to come back home.

Yesterday was fun.

My friends are in town from Wyoming (our former residence) and the kids have been having the time of their lives.

playing with their friend Sklar…who sometimes struggles with sharing

but, after some encouragement she smiles again and loves with such a pure HEART.

My friend Lacy made the kids some FAIRY wings for fun…even Connor recieved a pair. They LOVED them! The girls kept fluttering around the house playing princess fairies, but I think out of all three of them, Jessie loved hers the most.

Lacy and I headed to the store with the three kids in tow and bought little goodies for them to play with. Then, when Drew came home from work we bundled the kids all up to go sledding. It was the perfect snowy weather to play outside. The wind wasn’t blowing, the snowflakes were big and fluffy (almost like “movie” snow), and then BEHOLD MY EARS, we learned that Skylar had never been sledding before! WHAT? This was going to be fun.

At first I was nervous this little three year old would have reservations about sledding down a steep hill. I kept my fingers crossed and tried to get her excited as Jessie and Connor were impatiently waiting for us to get into the truck.

It was starting to get dark, but the kids still weren’t ready to go. (by kids, I mean Jessie and Connor. Skylar had her fair share of sledding) So, to make our snowy adventure last longer, we reverted their attention to the snowy playground. That brought forth a whole new layer of excitement.

After three hours of snow sledding, sliding, snow angels, and swinging into magical snowflakes, it was time to head home. What a great way to spend time with friends.

AND it was so special to be a part of something Skylar experienced for the first time.

AND all the smiles and all our HAPPY faces will be burned in my memory forever.

Have you ever had a day that seemed MAGICAL? We did.

When Jessie sees rainbows, she says they are magic. We had a very magical day yesterday.

So, to start my magic show, here is the RAINBOW CAKE recipe:

I would love to hear your stories about YOUR rainbow cake. Please share with me!

We had a bunch of broken crayons that always seemed to be on the floor or under the couch, so we searched the house and gathered the peices to make magical crayons.

the kids REALLY enjoyed this magical project. They have been coloring with them since. Thanks Katt, for the great IDEA!

I have been working on “things” for my etsy shop and am excited to share some of the items I will be listing. I do wish there were more hours in one day!

backpack collage

Jessie has decided she NEEDS this one, but I am currently in the process of creating more…Connor has to have one too you know…and his neighbor friend, Logan…and YOU. You need one for your little person too!

I am making little bracelets to go with magical tutus with matching hair barrettes. It’s going to be so much fun and so magical and a great package for a birthday princess! Jessie LOVES these as well.

Jessie is wearing her MAGICAL tutu I made her. She watched me work on it and even helped. She didn’t want to go to bed, but I promised her it would be finished when she woke up in the morning. When she saw it in the morning sitting on top of the basket all poofed out and colorful…her eyes and face were MAGICAL!

oh, how I love seeing them show acts of kindess. Connor called out to her, ran over and squeezed her really big and told her she was beautiful. <sniff> I hope he never changes…his heart is MAGICAL!

The weather was perfectly magical yesterday. It was a great day to play at the park…then we went to the library.

then we came home and made rainbow cupcakes…

At the end of our rainbowrific day, our whole family went to the rec center to go swimming and, again, had the best time.

Our day really was MAGICAL!!

my monday

This Monday will be in my memory forever. So many great moments happened. From the minute I opened my eyes till now, I have been smiling…if not my face, my heart. I LOVE days like these.

my Jessie

First person I saw this morning. I RAN for my camera.

Drew gave me roses he picked from the rose bush (BIG smiles)

Jessie made us “lunch” in the clubhouse…it still needs it’s finishing touches…and a cleaning lady. (I’m on strike!)

Connor was playing in the sand…then we all made sandcastles…too busy for pictures.

The entire time we are outside, Brasco tows this little kong around begging, barking, taunting…even the neighbors give in 🙂

I still have strawberries growing in my garden…

then we drove out to the park…more SMILES!

We were all enjoying ourselves (the dogs were LOVING it). It was a wide open space and lots of crunchy fall leaves. I love fall!

Connor rolled down the hill through the leaves. We pretended to be explorers and adventurers. I’m going to say it again. I am getting in touch with my inner child…it’s been nice.

“I am so STRONG!”

Isn’t fall FUN? Don’t you just want to join her?…I DID!

then we watched the skateboarders…jump, slide, skid, and fall. Jessie and Connor are fascinated by this sport. They keep asking when they get to do those things…ummmm, NEVER!

We talked about fairies and such when we came across this old tree. I bet it is beautiful in the summer. I couldnt’ get the whole thing in my lense, but it reminded me of “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. LOVED it!

I loved today. I love when we spend time as a family from the moment we open our eyes until we go to bed. Thank you God for GREAT days and for GREAT people when our days aren’t so good. <warm fuzzies>

~time together~

This past Tuesday was Jessie’s turn to be the class leader. She was really excited, especially after sitting through Connor’s day. She picked out her snack (straweberries, grapes, raisins, and Big Bird juice) and decided she wanted to take  her pink PIG. When you squish his stomache he makes a “farty” noise and he has a button on his hand that makes him squeal like a pig. He is really fun.

Jessie show and tell

She had a good day!

It had been so gloomy for almost two weeks straight…cold, rainy, gray, cloudy, dark…then the sun came out for three days.

So, when Drew got off work this past Tuesday and the kids came home from school, we decided to go to the park and spend time outside, as a family.

We really enjoyed ourselves. Drew took over with the camera almost the whole time and we just appreciated our time together.

Jessie pouting

Jessie decided she wanted to pout here. So I chased her around with my camera and told her I was going to show everybody “Pouty Jessie.” She thought that was funny and she tried to hide behind a tree.

but I caught her!

Then we decided to ride bikes. The park has flat ground…unlike our  house that is on a steep hill.

Drew brought his Harley and gave the kids rides around the park…they LOVE to ride daddy’s bike!

Then we came across a snake on the bike path. I wonder how many people jogged right over it…because the kids and I actually rode right past it and Drew called us back…he such a SNIPER.

I have no idea what kind it is, but it did not like us.

We arrived at the park around 3 pm and stayed until the sun started to go down.

It was a good day. I am so glad we decided to do this. It brought LOTS of SMILES from us all.

because I needed a break

We (Drew and I) decided we needed a family day…BADLY!

Drew got off work.

We loaded up the kids bikes (all four of them).

Drew got his Harley out of the garage.

And we all headed to Arnold Park.

I am always the one behind the camera…ALWAYS. I decided Drew could be the family photographer this day. And…he did.

Now I am off to finish the rest of my evening with my family…
