the princess and the fall

I was wondering to myself how I would start this post as so many pictures will be of my sweet angel. Not that I don’t take pictures of Connor, but he just doesn’t shove his face in front of the camera like Jessie does…and the fact he rarely holds still long enough for me to get him has a lot to do with it too.

We finally started the first day of school last week. Oh what a JOY! A joy for the kids and for me. Last year I cried all the way home, cried in my empty quiet house, and spent the entire 2 1/2  hours on the phone with my friend who reassured me that it would get better. This year, I was so disappointed my kids didn’t start school with the rest of the district. What is all that about anyway? So finally the day came and we all rushed out the door so excited to find what the day would hold for us.

With school, the rest of fall has begun for the Robertson household. The weather is just right for playing at the park with our friends…the first time in a long time we can come home from an activity that doesn’t require immediate dirt-mixed-with-sweat-or-chlorine removal.

Even though it isn’t “officially” fall…although the weather and changing trees tell otherwise, we have started our fall sports and activities outside of school. We now are involved in soccer. We have started the AWANAS program through our church, which I have decided to volunteer in helping all those wound up children learn more about Jesus. Jessie is starting ballet and Connor is ready to begin taekwondo. A jammed packed fall, but this keeps us busy as we wait for Daddy to come home.

Speaking of daddy’s…this is for you, Drew. Jessie dressed up in clothes from my closet and said you would be so surprised to see that she is all grown up when you come home.

“…and when I grow up and get married, I am going to kiss like grown ups. Like this.” <cue smoochy face sounds>

Then after her 20th change, she said she didn’t want to grow up anymore. She just wants to see her daddy.

We think about you every day sweetheart! We love and miss you. We are so proud of you. We pray that God keeps you all safe every morning and night in our prayers. We believe in you and can’t wait for you to come back home.

I came across this on another blog.

I am a big mush ball.

I can cry at anything…especially when it comes to my kids growing up.

I saw this video and thought to myself…”THIS IS ME! and my kids are only FOUR.”

you have to see this…so touching, so real, so many emotions come seeping out from watching it.

I cried…knowing that one day, I will embark upon this part of our lives and I can’t help but wonder…how fast it all seems to be going by.

On Wednesday last week we were told (by the weather man) a TERRIBLE storm was acomin’. The whole city of St. Louis and surrounding areas were taking emergency precautions, closing schools for the day and putting businesses on a “snow schedule,” and preparing for the worst.

Want to know what the worst was going to be? 5-8 inches of snow…pfft! Blowing winds with gust up to 25 miles an hour…HA!

Needless to say, until you have lived in a state where the normal wind flow IS 25 miles an hour, I guess one would freak out.

5-8 inches of snow? What’s the problem? My kids could still walk through this stuff.

Oh well.

While everyone else was preparing for the worst, we (The Robertsons) were preparing for the BEST time. We were hoping and crossing our fingers for 8 inches, but we only got a measly 2.

But, God sent enough for us to take the kids out and go sledding…and make snow angels…and play with the dogs (all but Brasco)…and try to make snowballs (snow wasn’t sticky)…WE LOVE THE SNOW!

Here are a few pictures from our rompin’ fun in the beautiful, cold, white, snow.

It was way to COLD for little Brasco. His poor little feet couldn’t handle it…he had to go back inside.

Jessie worked for a long time to get snow between her gloves so she could eat it…so PERSISTANT!

Warren absolutely LOVES to play in the snow!

Allana had a BLAST chasing us as we sled down the hill. I’d like to say it was a race…but she always let us win. Good dog!

It was a fun day…and you know what? The wind wasn’t half bad!

Where does the time go?

044Does anyone else feel that your days seems shorter when you have kids? Our day begins around 8:30 am and usually ends after a long struggle at around 10:30 pm. I usually have a plan the night before of what tasks need to be accomplished, when we will do our outside playtime, leave a slot open for grueling homework, and then of course there are meal times. For some reason I never get the “tasks” part of my day done. By the time I get the kids into bed (finally!) I look back over my day and feel I have personally accomplished nothing for myself. I have two explanations for this: 1. I am bad at time management or 2. my kids come first and self sacrifice is what comes with being a parent. Hmmm…. I pick number two.

With the weather as nice as it is and knowing that a long, cold, dark winter is coming and days will be filled with inside activities and indoor establishments for fun, I choose to let the kids be outside as much as possible. Winters around here bring out the bear in us all. I would rather hybernate, but my children are still full of this fiery energy God blessed them with the day they were born! I keep wondering how two little three year olds can go as long as they do with no nap, no rest, and (my daughter) barely any food. I am still trying to find a way to bottle up their precious energy and sell it for extreme amounts of money.

So, another day has passed, and my to-do’s are now tacked on top of tomorrow’s. But, I sure am enjoying every moment of giggles, smiles, kisses and memories I would be missing while folding laundry and shampooing carpets!
